The indie girl's guide to...Metric Australian Tour

This month mark’s the first ever Australian tour of Metric … and I just want to say …. “bam chika bam chika boom boom boom shalac shalac boom shalac shalac boom!”

I was really surprised and ecstatic at the announcement of Canadian indie band Metric on this year’s Parklife line-up – which has taken a notably indie turn this year. But that’s damn fine by me because it brings Metric out here for the very first time, on the back of this year’s (did someone say “breakthrough”) album Fantasies.

Fantasies is a masterful piece of pop and I can’t wait to hear it live. No doubt you will have heard the singles Help I’m Alive and Gimme Sympathy bouncing around your radio of late, and the rest of the album is filled with similar  shimmering pop gems.

For me the beauty of Metric lies largely in the appeal of frontwoman Emily Haines. She can make me dance, she can make me cry….all in one breath. Emily is one-tenth or twelfth (who can keep up!) of the Broken Social Scene alumni (although these days she just makes the odd live appearance when the Canadian supergroup gets together on home turf) and has been known to do the solo thing too – see 2006’s achingly beautiful Knives Don’t Have Your Back.

I have been hoping for this tour ever since I started dancing around my room to Monster Hospital back in 2006….this month can’t go fast enough xx
